StreetMapper Laser Surveys Australia’s Coastal Highway

October 31, 2011 -- StreetMapper, the vehicle-based laser mapping system, has completed a survey along the North West Coastal Highway in Western Australia. Travelling at normal traffic speeds, the StreetMapper system captured survey grade data achieving millimetre accurate measurements of the road surface and roadside features. StreetMapper 3D Laser Survey of Japanese Earthquake Damage

The vehicle-based laser mapping system StreetMapper is being used to assess the structural damage caused by the Japanese earthquake of 11 March 2011. The mobile mapping system, purchased from Mirukuru and operated by Asia Air Survey, has been used to capture highly detailed 3D survey data. This data will also be used to survey the effects of soil liquefaction (loss of strength from saturated soil) which is an important factor in the disaster-hit area where much of the land is reclaimed from the sea...

StreetMapper Laser Surveying Takes to the Streets of Malaysia

StreetMapper, the vehicle-based laser mapping system, has successfully completed high speed surveying trials in Malaysia. StreetMapper conducted a detailed engineering survey of the Univerisiti Teknologi Malaysia in a challenge, set by surveying company Jalal Johari Consultants, to compare StreetMapper’s performance against traditional total station surveying. Collecting 2.7 billion highly accurate measurements in just a matter of hours StreetMapper came out on top for speed of data capture, surveyor safety and ease of use. Using StreetMapper to assess Sendai tsunami damage

A few of the presentations and a lot of the conversations at SPAR Japan last week in Kawasaki contemplated the use of 3D imaging for assessing the damage caused by the earthquake on March 11. Asia Air Survey Co. had just taken delivery of a StreetMapper mobile mapping system from IGI and 3D Laser Mapping immediately prior to the disaster. StreetMapper product manager Chris Cox was on site in Kanagawa on the outskirts of Tokyo when the earthquake struck. On 18 July 2009 is the soil in Nachterstedt, a small town in Saxony-Anhalt, starting to move. Approximately one million cubic meters of earth slides into an adjacent lake. Three houses and a road swept away and buried three residents. 41 inhabitants of seven other houses lose their home on this day. The affected district must be abandoned.
